slanted ,concave and covex mirrors
Slanted Mirror-
When a source of light hits a slanted mirror in a straight line, the light bounces of in a equal direction of the mirror.
Concave Mirror-
A concave mirror is where the mirror goes in.How i remeber is it goes in like a cave. When a source of light in a straight line, hits a concave mirror it it reflects in the oppesite direction.
Convex Mirror-
A convex mirror is where it goes outwards. When a straight line of light hits the convex mirror the light reflects in every angle.

Our Astounding Footballers
A huge, hearty well done to our girls' football team who competed so brilliantly at the Girls' Football Borough Final at Powerleague on Tuesday. Despite the cold, damp weather everyone gave 100% on the pitch and we all had a great day.
After a useful coaching session in the morning, the team played a series of matches through the rest of the day, scoring enough points to make it through to an exciting semi-final, which they coasted through, and a final match against Woodley, who played superbly to win the competition. Our girls were thrilled to take the second place spot, and are determined to return next year and go one better!
Thank you and well done once again to all the players who came along to represent St John's - you all behaved and competed brilliantly and it was a pleasure to take you along.
Thank you also to the competition organisers, and to the parents who helped with lifts or came along to the show their support. Big thanks also, of course, go to our coaches, Clayton and Kelly, both of whom have done lots of work with the girls over the last few months.
Just a reminder that our girls' football club is open to ALL girls from Year 3 to Year 6 and happens after school every Monday, from 3:15 to 4:30. Subs are £2 each week. We're hoping to organise more matches against other Stockport schools for the new year, so let's try and get even more of our girls involved in football at school!

a great big 4! by megan
first we got changed into our football kits at school and sorted out which car we were going in and we set off to the match.
then we met Clayton (our coach) and we got told our positions and the whistle went!
i was playing on the right wing and was doing really well until a Broadstone player kicked my bad ankle that i had sprained the week before so i slowed up a little bit as my ankle started to hurt. grace came to the rescue and sped down the right wing and was man of the match from then on! she got one goal out of the great big four that we had so she played the best of all of us!!
Broadstone kept making out that we fouled them and they managed to get one goal which was unfair but they are not going to power league in november for a match towards a trophy so that is alright!

Class N's trip to Mellor!
-one did metal detecting;
-one did digging for roman items;
-and one did washing and recording their finds!
We all rotated and did every activity before lunch so we all found an object or two during the morning!
Next we had lunch back in the parish centre and played outside if we wanted to and then we gathered our belongings and set off to do a 'History Mystery Trail!'
then we got onto the coach and set off on our long journey home and we headed back to Stockport!

International Week!
Yesterday on tuesday our classes went to different classrooms and did different things. In Reception we wrote leters to gordon brown about human traffiking which is basically about children having rights in the world. The letters are actually going to be sent off!! In year 1 we listened to a story called Mr Dry Bones. After in year 2 the Senegulease teachers told us some facts about Senegal like they have a river which is a rose colour! In year 3 the the teachers told us a story about a poor man and a lion with a thorn in his foot. After that in year 4and 5 we made a slave ship and wrote about how we thought we would feel if we were one of the slaves. Finally in year 6 we made fact files about slavery. Today only years 3,4,5 and 6 have taken part in the theme day and in Year 6 we made Hammer bead Jewelry, Year 4 and 5 we made pankackes and played the drums then last of all In year 3 we made a mount Kilimanjaro!
This week
Kilimanjaro
- kilimanjaro is the tallest mountain in Africa and the world’s highest free-standing mountain.
- Kilimanjaro lies 205 miles South of the equator and stands on Tanzania’s northern border with Kenya.
- - Kilimanjaro supports 5 major eco-zones: rainforest, heath, moorland, alpine desert and glaciers.
- The name Kilimanjaro has no certain origin, but one of the most popular theories is that it came from KILMA NJARO meaning “shining mountain” in Swahili. The shiny snow on the peak led nearby residents to believe that evil spirits guarded the mountain. This myth could also explain why some referred to NJARO
- Because they saw fellow tribe members attempt the climb only to disappear or to return deformed from frostbite, the Chagga people—who live at the base of the mountain—for centuries had no desire to climb the mountain they believed was full of evil spirits.

Art week
This week at ST.John's we are having an Art week. It will take place all week except Friday;which is sports day.
yesterday afternoon, after dinner we were split up into eight different groups. Group five; which is currently doing can people were doing scarecrows. We had to design five different scarecrows. Two were members of staff, Mrs.Ames and Mr.stocks,we supposed to keep this a secret from them until it's finished , so keep it down. The other three are supposed to represent the children of ST. John's.The way we had to make it was a bit weird but interesting in its own way. first of all we had to stuff a suit full of plastic bag then dress it. It was different Every time for instant, Mrs.Ames were dress up in what she would wear normally. Another group would make peoples faces by using balloons, bits of newspaper and PVA glue. We didn't get to Finnish but that's normally the case with these days because the it works on a rotor so one group dose an activity which an other group done.
The second day of Art week group five were making can people. we basically got tin cans and cut out lost and spare parts of uniform which people didn't want, need or lost. We had spare jumpers polo shirts and trousers. When finished they looked fantasic.
On thursday we are going to be doing to make a village for the play.

SAT presentations
Last week our headteacher, Mrs. Ames, made Class N do a presentation on 2006 science SAT paper A page 16 question 7. Every table did their own thing, including low-budget productions, PowerPoint prresentations, TV shows and demonstrations. The question sees Josh and Safia put a cold plate with ice cubes on top on a bowl of hot water. Soon water drips from the plate. If the ice cubes melt the water cannot seep through the plate. Why did the droplets appear? Quite simple if you understand evaporation and condensation.

Recently at st johns , class n, we have been learning how to write a playscript. We have decided on a horror topic. KS2 have been practising a new song about the school rules. As well as playscripts we wrote explanations of our local area, Heaton Mersey. This week we have been on the computers a lot. St Johns school is really exciting! This week our school has been enjoying the snowy weather by making snowmen, angels and lots more !
